最初のクラスまで何しよう？
最初のクラスが始まるまであと3週間。それまでにこのMBAに関する基礎知識だけは学んでおこうと思う。
既にOnline MBAの履修登録説明、Online環境の説明などで3回ほどwebinarが開催され、授業開始前の基礎知識コース（5時間分）も受講完了した。
改めてMBA、それもオンライン環境で学ぶのは大変な事だと思い知った。きちんと準備しておかなきゃ大変なことになる、と....
そこで、学生としてのバイブルである"Student Handbook"を読んでみることに。
まずはUNC Kenan-Flagler Business SchoolのCore Value。学校毎にそれぞれ特徴の出るところだと思うが、UNCがLeadership育成に重きを置いている事、Integrity/Community/Teamworkといった人との繋がりを重視している事が分かってくる。

そう言えば、入学のためのEssayのテーマの一つが「Core Valueの内最も共鳴するValueはどれで、あなたが経験したチャレンジの中でどうそのValueを大切にしてきたかを述べよ」というものであった。私はあえて「Integrity」を選び、「5つのValueは全て重要であるが、その根底にはIntegrity、即ち、"誠実さ", "正直", "倫理的"であることが必要で、困難な状況においてもそこだけは譲ってはならない。どんなビジネスの局面においてもIntegrityを守ることができれば、相手の信頼を損なう事なくチャレンジを乗り越えることができる」という感じの趣旨で書いたのを思い出した。
これは約30年のビジネスマン生活で学んだ中でも最も大事にしている「学び」「教訓」であり、MBA@UNCへの共感にも繋がったのは事実である。
次がHonor Code。UNCの学生として守らなければならないルールが記されており、21項目が定義されている。
ここに全てを挙げる事はしないが、大半は不正に関するもので、他人の論文をコピーしないこと、指定された方法以外でオンラインテストを受けないこと、テストの中身を今後その授業を受ける学生にバラさない、などである。Onlineの環境ゆえにやりようによっては不正はいくらでも可能であるが、それでは学習する意味はない。中にはMBAという名前だけ欲しい人もいるかもしれないが....
それ以上に強調されているのが「全ての学生が人種、宗教、性嗜好、年齢、障害などで差別されてはならない」ということ。時同じくして、白人警官による黒人殺害に端を発するデモが全米中、世界中で起こっているが、アメリカを代表する教育機関としてはそれらの差別を一切許さないという姿勢を感じる項目である。
その他、具体的なルールや評価基準などが46ページに亘って記載されており、これだけでも非常に読み応えのある書類であった。
ちなみにMBA@UNCではGPA（数値ベースの評価）ではなく、以下のグレードで評価されるらしい。
H = High Pass (Clear Excellence)
P = Pass (Entirely Satisfactory Graduate Work)
L = Low Pass (Inadequate Graduate Work)
F = Fail
IN = Incomplete
もちろん高いグレードを取ること自体が目的ではないが、どうせやるからには高いに越した事はない。
あと3週間、できる限りの準備をした上で初日を迎えたいものだ....
